Bananas, we see them year round in the grocery store and put them in a variety of foods. Banana bread, banana pudding, pies, cakes, and the list could go on. Many foods similar to bananas are grown in many backyard gardens. Cucumbers, squash, and watermelon are a few or the favorites. So why not try and grow your own bananas by planting a banana tree? A banana tree can produce bananas year round in some climates and can provide them for up to more than 15 years. Maybe you too can become a banana farmer right in your own yard.

The best and safest route is to find a commercial grower and purchase a “pup” and plant it. And even though a banana tree is not really a tree, it gets as big as one. If your planting a tree for fruit, you want to remember that the bigger the space, the most likely your fruit will produce to the size it should.

Have you ever heard of a red banana tree? This plant isn’t know for it’s red bananas, although it does produce them, or rather an orange banana. A red banana tree is mostly grown for it’s beautiful foliage and flowers. You can plant a red banana tree in a bright spot indoors and enjoy the splendor of this plant for years and years. The leaves of and foliage are rich green and burgundy, and the flowers vary from orange and red shades. And even if you decide you don’t care for the fruit it produces, this variety of banana is easily planted from a fresh and ripe piece of fruit. Once you know how much you enjoy it, you can simply pick the fruit to plant a new one.
